The following is a breakout of the “Locomotive Engineer” course for employees who will be performing the duties of locomotive engineer for short periods on long haul assignments to relieve the engineer on meal breaks and other relief requirements

PREREQUISITES: Trainee must be a qualified conductor with a minimum of 2 years field experience.

OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course trainees will demonstrate the following:

• Locomotive start up and shut down procedures
• Proper use of independent and automatic brakes valves
• Train handling techniques
• Minor locomotive troubleshooting

DURATION: The course is of 15 days duration, 60% classroom – 40% on locomotive or simulator
