Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) for Engineering Employees

The following is a breakout of the “Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) for Engineering Employees” course for engineering employees, of railroads or contractors, who perform track work and operate track units on federally regulated railroads in Canada.

OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course trainees will be certified to work on or around main tracks of federally regulated railroads as per Canadian regulations.

DURATION: The course is of a 3 day duration

CLASS SIZE: 1 - 12 trainees

The course consists of the following elements:

1. Canadian Rail Operating Rules

  • Radio rules
  • Main track authority
  • Rules applied in emergencies
  • Track Occupancy Permits
  • Rules for protection of track units and track work (CROR 842 and TOP)
  • Protection for slow track
  • Systems of train control
  • Interlocking rules

2. General Engineering Instructions

  • Procedures for separated work groups
  • Procedures for clearing trains
  • Forms of protection
  • Track Unit Operation
  • Complacency issues

Upon successful completion of examination on the CROR, trainees will be given a card certifying them in accordance with Canadian regulations.
